dress-up days that never were

Paddywhack Lane's The Costume Trunk
When I was about 4, my mom, looking for new ways to entertain me and maintain my younger brother (who was the poster child for ADHD), put together a costume box for me. Filled with shoes, earrings and necklaces, blouses and skirts - all that she had painstakingly altered to almost fit tiny me.

She introduced me to it - 'Anna! Look at all these dress-up clothes, just for you!'

I poked at the clothes, and asked, "What do I do with it?"

My mother answered me, "Well, you dress up as anything you want, and then pretend that you are that! You could be a doctor, or a mommy, or a lawyer..."

And little blonde-curly-haired, big blue-eyed me looked at her and said...

"That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard."

Thus ended my dress-up days.

In The Costume Trunk, Courtney and her friends discovers the magical world of Paddywhack Lane where all they need is their imagination to have fun. 1. lol, well that was short and sweet. Your poor mom, all that trouble and you didn't even know what to do with it.

  2. Your reaction to the costume trunk your mother tenderly created is about the same as my grandson's reaction to this book!
